A failed tank may not appear different on the outside. A failed tank may also be split open. We have no desire to see tanks fail- if a tank fails catastrophically in our hydrostatic testing equipment, it destroys a single-use component within our test rig. This keeps our people safe – but it also costs us more than we charge for a test, because we need to replace these parts. Because of this, we do not offer refunds on testing which fails.

However, there are some circumstances which we do our best to accomodate:

If a tank is in for hydrostatic testing, we perform visual testing first. If visual testing fails, we will provide 2 free fills when you bring in a new tank.

If a tank is in for visual inspection and fails, and you bring us a new tank, we will fill it once for free.

Condemned Tanks

If a tank fails hydrostatic or visual inspection, it is condemned.

A condemned tank may not be legally filled. We are required to damage the markings on the tank which indicate to a tank filler that it is illegal to fill the tank. If someone fills a tank which has failed inspection, they are putting themselves and others at grave risk.

Aluminum is recyclable. We recommend bringing condemned tanks to a scrap yard.

Damage to paint

Hydrostatic testing requires marking the tank with a metal embossing stamp when testing is completed.
